Did you know that one year of your dog does not equal 7 of your years?

The truth is that no one knows where that statement comes from. The first evidence about the try on looking for a human equivalence in the age of dogs, can be find in Westminister Abbey in London. It is an inscription of 1268 (XIII century), a calculation that ensures that a human year is nine years of a dog.

In the modern age, some texts of mathematics of the 60s of this century are filed. No, they are not scientific texts, but school exercises. In them the children are asked to calculate the age of a dog … and for that they are given the quotient 7.

Know one knows exactly why. The thesis of a veterinarian at the University of Kansas is that this arbitrary equivalence is based on a marketing strategy. If my dog is seven years old annually, the I should at least take him to the vet once a year right?

If you want to calculate your dog’s age better, the size seems to matter. The magazine Science Alert, has produced a data table with the following conclusions: a year of human life is 15 years in small and medium dogs and 14 years in large and super large dogs. However, aging has different progression according to races (and other factors, such as the structure of the head and respiratory system) and each year does not have the same equivalence as another.

With which, we are practically the same. We do not know how many human years would a dogs year be like. One thing is for sure. Dogs live less than us.
